# Wangari Maathai

Kenyan environmental and political activist who founded the Green Belt Movement, which planted over 51 million trees across Africa while empowering rural women. The first African woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize (2004). A member of Kenya's parliament and assistant minister for environment, she connected ecology to democracy and women's rights.
