Vincent van Gogh was a Dutch Post-Impressionist painter who is among the most famous and influential figures in the history of Western art, despite selling only one painting during his lifetime. In just over a decade of prolific work before his death at 37, he produced more than 2,100 artworks including The Starry Night, Sunflowers, and Bedroom in Arles, characterized by bold colors and intense emotional honesty. He struggled with severe mental illness throughout his adult life and died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
