# Valentín Gómez Farías

Valentín Gómez Farías was a pioneering liberal politician who served multiple times as acting President of Mexico in the 1830s and 1840s. He initiated Mexico's first major reform movement, attempting to reduce the power of the Catholic Church and the military — radical ideas that would eventually be realized by Benito Juárez in the Reforma.
