Sergei Rachmaninoff Sergei Rachmaninoff was a Russian composer and pianist who is considered one of the finest pianists of the 20th century and one of the last great representatives of the Romantic tradition of European classical music. His Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor and Piano Concerto No. 3 in D minor are among the most frequently performed and technically demanding piano concertos in the classical repertoire, and his Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini remains one of his best-known works. He emigrated to the United States after the Russian Revolution and spent his later career as a touring concert pianist.
