Salvador Dalí Salvador Dalí was a Spanish Surrealist artist best known for his technically precise and dreamlike imagery, most famously The Persistence of Memory (1931) with its melting clocks. A flamboyant and provocative public figure with a trademark waxed mustache, he collaborated with filmmaker Luis Buñuel, Alfred Hitchcock, and designer Elsa Schiaparelli, extending his artistic vision beyond canvas into film, fashion, and advertising. He is one of the most recognizable artists of the 20th century.
