Robin Williams Robin Williams was the most electrifying improvisational comedian of his era and a dramatic actor of surprising depth, a man whose manic genius lit up every room and every screen he entered. Born in Chicago, he studied theater at Juilliard alongside Christopher Reeve before rocketing to fame in 'Mork & Mindy' (1978–1982) and becoming a stand-up phenomenon whose HBO specials set a new standard for the form. He won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for 'Good Will Hunting' (1997) and delivered beloved performances in 'Dead Poets Society' (1989), 'Aladdin' (1992), 'Mrs. Doubtfire' (1993), and 'Good Morning, Vietnam' (1987); his death from Lewy body dementia revealed a private suffering at odds with his exuberant public persona.
