Paul Newman Paul Newman was one of the most charismatic and critically acclaimed actors of the 20th century, a two-time Oscar winner whose steely blue eyes and naturalistic intensity defined cool masculinity on screen for five decades. Born in Shaker Heights, Ohio, he studied at Yale and the Actors Studio before starring in classics including 'Cool Hand Luke' (1967), 'Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid' (1969), and 'The Verdict' (1982), finally winning the Oscar for 'The Color of Money' (1986). Off-screen he was renowned for his passionate car racing, political activism, and his Newman's Own food company, which donated over $570 million to charity.
