He co-founded the Cubist movement and co-invented collage, and his large-scale Guernica (1937)—a response to the bombing of the Basque city during the Spanish Civil War—is one of the most powerful anti-war statements in art history. Over his 80-year career, he produced an estimated 20,000–25,000 works.
