# Neil Armstrong

Neil Armstrong was an American astronaut and aerospace engineer who became the first human to walk on the Moon on July 20, 1969, during NASA's Apollo 11 mission. A naval aviator and test pilot before joining NASA, he commanded the historic mission and uttered one of history's most famous phrases: "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." He returned from the Moon to widespread acclaim and largely avoided the spotlight for the remainder of his life.
