Charles "Lucky" Luciano was an Italian-born American mobster and crime boss who is considered the father of modern organized crime in the United States for splitting New York City into five crime families. Luciano was convicted of running a prostitution ring and deported to Italy in 1946. He was a key figure in the development of the National Crime Syndicate.
