# Juan Rulfo

Juan Rulfo revolutionized Latin American literature with just two slender works: the short-story collection El Llano en llamas (1953) and the novel Pedro Páramo (1955), which influenced Gabriel García Márquez and virtually every major novelist who followed. His spare, poetic prose and fragmented narrative structure anticipated magical realism and postmodern fiction. Despite his minimal output, he is considered one of the essential writers of the 20th century.
