Josefa Ortiz de Domínguez, known as "La Corregidora," was a key organizer of Mexico's independence conspiracy. When the plot was discovered by Spanish authorities, she managed — from inside her locked room — to warn Miguel Hidalgo through a messenger, directly triggering the Grito de Independencia on September 16, 1810. She is one of Mexico's greatest heroines.

María Josefa Crescencia Ortiz Téllez–Girón, popularly known as Doña Josefa Ortiz de Domínguez or La Corregidora was an insurgent and supporter of the Mexican War of Independence, which fought for independence against Spain, in the early 19th century. She was married to Miguel Domínguez, corregidor of the city of Querétaro, hence her nickname.
