# Joan of Arc

Joan of Arc was a medieval French peasant girl who, claiming divine guidance, led the French army to several important victories during the Hundred Years' War, profoundly influencing its outcome. Captured by Anglo-Burgundian forces in 1430, she was tried for heresy and burned at the stake at age 19. She was canonized as a saint of the Roman Catholic Church in 1920 and is considered the patron saint of France and a national heroine.
