# James Dean

James Dean was a cultural phenomenon whose brief career — only three starring films — made him an eternal symbol of teenage rebellion and existential alienation. Born in Indiana, he studied acting in New York under Lee Strasberg and made his name in the Broadway production of 'See the Jaguar' before being cast opposite Raymond Massey in 'East of Eden' (1955). His roles in 'Rebel Without a Cause' (1955) and 'Giant' (1956) cemented his legend; he died in a car crash at age 24 and became the first actor to receive a posthumous Oscar nomination.
