Jacques Derrida Jacques Derrida was a French-Algerian philosopher who founded deconstruction, a method of critical analysis that exposes the internal contradictions and unstable hierarchies within texts and philosophical traditions. His trilogy of 1967 — Of Grammatology, Writing and Difference, and Speech and Phenomena — launched the deconstructive project that would transform literary theory, legal studies, architecture, and theology. Though controversial, Derrida is among the most widely read and debated philosophers of the late 20th century.
