# Guadalupe Victoria

Guadalupe Victoria, born Manuel Félix Fernández, was the first President of Mexico (1824–1829). A hero of the independence wars who took the name "Guadalupe Victoria" as a battle cry, he was the only president of his era to complete a full term. He abolished slavery and maintained Mexican sovereignty during the rocky early years of independence.
