The Cocaine Godmother Griselda Blanco was a Colombian drug trafficker who built one of the most successful cocaine smuggling networks into the United States during the 1970s and 1980s, playing a central role in establishing Miami as a major cocaine distribution hub and reportedly overseeing or ordering the murders of dozens of people during the violent trafficking wars of that era. She was arrested in the United States in 1985, convicted of drug trafficking and three counts of murder, and sentenced to a total of 20 years, being released in 2004 and deported to Colombia. She was shot and killed in Medellín, Colombia, in September 2012.
