Grace Kelly Grace Kelly was an American actress of extraordinary poise and natural luminosity who became a film star before transforming into a real-life princess when she married Prince Rainier III of Monaco in 1956. In a remarkably compressed five-year film career she won an Academy Award for 'The Country Girl' (1954) and starred in three Alfred Hitchcock films — 'Dial M for Murder' (1954), 'Rear Window' (1954), and 'To Catch a Thief' (1955). She died in a car accident near Monaco in 1982 and remains a symbol of grace, elegance, and the fairy-tale possibilities of American life.
