Genghis Khan Genghis Khan was the founder and first Great Khan of the Mongol Empire, which became the largest contiguous land empire in history after his death. Born Temüjin around 1162, he unified the nomadic Mongol tribes and launched devastating conquests across Asia and into Eastern Europe, while also facilitating trade and cultural exchange along the Silk Road. His descendants continued expanding the empire, which at its height stretched from the Pacific Ocean to Eastern Europe.
