Frédéric Chopin Frédéric Chopin was a Polish composer and virtuoso pianist of the Romantic era who almost exclusively composed for solo piano and is widely regarded as the greatest piano composer in history. His works—nocturnes, études, polonaises, mazurkas, and waltzes—are defined by their lyrical beauty, technical sophistication, and deeply personal emotional content. He spent most of his adult life in Paris, where his music and his long romantic relationship with novelist George Sand made him one of the most celebrated artists of his era.
