Eric Clapton Eric Clapton is a British guitarist, singer, and songwriter who is one of the most celebrated electric guitarists in the history of rock music, having played in landmark bands including the Yardbirds, Cream, Blind Faith, and Derek and the Dominos, as well as maintaining a prolific solo career over five decades. Nicknamed "Slowhand," he has won 18 Grammy Awards and is widely regarded as a supreme interpreter of the blues in the rock idiom, with recordings such as "Layla," "Tears in Heaven," and "Wonderful Tonight" among his best-known works. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame three times—as a member of the Yardbirds, Cream, and as a solo artist.
