In collaboration with lyricist Bernie Taupin, he dominated the 1970s pop charts and has continued performing and recording for over five decades, earning five Grammy Awards, five Brit Awards, an Academy Award, a Tony Award, and a Golden Globe. He was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 1998.
