Donald Knuth Donald Knuth is an American computer scientist and mathematician widely regarded as the father of the analysis of algorithms. His multi-volume work The Art of Computer Programming—a comprehensive monograph on the theory and practice of programming—is considered one of the most important texts in the history of computer science, and Bill Gates has famously said that anyone who can read the whole series should send him a résumé. Knuth also created the TeX typesetting system and the METAFONT language to typeset mathematics, which remain the standard for scientific and mathematical publishing.
