Dolly Parton Dolly Parton is an American singer, songwriter, actress, and philanthropist from rural Tennessee who is widely regarded as the greatest female country songwriter of the 20th century, having written over 3,000 songs including "I Will Always Love You" and "Jolene." With over 100 million records sold worldwide, she has won 11 Grammy Awards and numerous other honors, and her philanthropy—most notably the Imagination Library, which has donated over 200 million books to children—has cemented her status as a beloved American cultural figure. She famously declined both the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Medal of Freedom before ultimately accepting the latter in 2022.
