# Brian Kernighan

Brian Kernighan is a Canadian computer scientist who worked at Bell Labs and co-authored the seminal 1978 book The C Programming Language with Dennis Ritchie—universally known as "K&R"—which became the definitive reference for C and set the standard for how programming books are written. He also created the AWK text-processing language with Alfred Aho and Peter Weinberger, and wrote numerous foundational texts on Unix tools and software engineering. He is currently a professor at Princeton University and continues to write influential books on programming.
