El Barbas Arturo Beltrán Leyva was the founder and leader of the Beltrán Leyva Cartel, having broken away from the Sinaloa Cartel after accusing Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán of betraying his brother to authorities. He built a significant criminal organization extending across multiple Mexican states, known for its extreme violence and corruption of public officials. He was killed by Mexican Navy marines during a raid in Cuernavaca, Morelos, on December 16, 2009.
