Andrew Carnegie Andrew Carnegie was a Scottish-American industrialist who led the expansion of the American steel industry in the late 19th century and became one of the wealthiest people of his era. He later gave away almost his entire fortune, building over 2,500 public libraries worldwide and shaping the modern concept of philanthropy.
